Hanging Art

It's not as exiting as it sounds really. I had this perception on my mind that you have to be delicate with the art because...well...it's other peoples works. If it was my stuff I would want people to handle it with respect, so that's how I handle art, with profound respect for
the artist, their work and what it means to them. Course I envy them because I can't draw or paint and even though I have obsurd images in my head, I wouldn't know how to make them physical. That's a good thing. But I love art none the less.

Going to different art galleries for the last two years has been a unique experience to say the least. The different class of people from different parts of town and elitism expanded my concepts of the streets and of people. A person who looks and dresses like me would never really be seen at gelleries and opening receptions, let a lone enjoy it and write about them. The looks and stares mean nothing because I was there as an art lover, not some ass clown drinking wine and talking smack about a tv show.

I also love the fact that a lot of the Chican@ art that I have come to love and adore has a rich and beautiful history dating back to the Mexican revolution that happened in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Everything is getting contextualized and i'm connecting the dots as to
how everything is related. In fact I'm so enthralled and motivated by the works that becoming a Chicano studies teacher doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Course it would mean dramatic changes in my plans and schooling. Not to mention I'm not as astute as I like to be. Honestly I'm just lazy sometimes because I have bad study habits. But we'll see how things go and develope from here. The show I helped hang opens tomorrow and it's the same old same old. I just go to show support, meet people and be seen. Every now and then free food make it worth while. BUT TOMORROW I GET TO SEE THE WATCHMEN. My guess is that normal people won't understand it and completely miss the point. But I know I'll like it.
